Video: new facilities for plant research in the UK

The new multi-million pound National Plant Phenomics Centre (NPPC) is a unique facility within the UK for agricultural and horticultural research. Thousands of plants’ physical characteristics are automatically measured on a cyber-industrial scale and recorded digitally.

The subjects researchers will tackle with the help of these facilities are how plant characteristics are affected by genes, the environment and both together. The answers will help tackle food security challenges and the need for better, more efficient biofuels, among other projects.

Those of you who want a glimpse of the future may enjoy this video from the BBSRC giving a virtual tour of the centre.
